Hi! I’m Sofía, Third Space’s Founder and Creative Lead.

I founded Third Space because frankly, it’s hard to make friends as an adult! 

My career pre-Third Space was spent first working as a kindergarten teacher, then as grants manager for a local non-profit. Though both jobs were rewarding on a personal and professional level, I still felt naggingly unfulfilled.

At the time, the cornerstones of my social life were weekly nights out with friends; evenings at home with my partner, Cole; and the occasional weekend getaway.

I felt uninspired and uncreative, and couldn’t help but feel I was missing out on something… more.

In an attempt to remedy this, I decided to leverage my creative hobbies as an avenue to community; however was disappointed to find most local classes were either only offered during the workday, or not suitable for my skill level (beginner). 

Next, a group of friends and I turned to intramural sports, which, as it turns out, are geared towards college kids and difficult to join as a layman. 

I felt at a loss, and even considered moving cities in pursuit of a more vibrant social landscape.

Tucson is at an interesting crossroads– we are a growing city with a strong pipeline of transplants coming our way through the University and young professionals beckoned by our city’s unique charm and relative low cost of living. As our population of young people grows, Tucson needs to engage them in new, meaningful ways that foster community; encourage locals to stick around and newcomers to put down roots.

So, I decided to create the social destination of my dreams right here at home.

I love Tucson, and am passionate about creating a space that engages and celebrates the curious, talented people that make our city so special– there are plenty of us out here searching for each other; we just need a place to meet! 

Third Space is intended to be a constant; somewhere the door is always open, and something fun is always happening.
