Hi! I'm Sofía, founder of Third Space.
I'm a born-and-raised Tucsonan passionate about our city’s unique social fabric, and created Third Space as an answer to the pinch I felt as a young adult trying to make new friends in Tucson.
In 2021, I found myself for the first time in my adult life without the social structure of school. I realized I didn't know where or how to make new friends in adulthood, and quickly let myself slip into an uncreative and less-than-social weeknight routine.
In an attempt to remedy this, I decided to adopt a creative hobby and was disappointed to find few options for arts learning classes being held outside of my standard; 9-5, Monday-Friday; work schedule.
Where could I go to make new friends and learn new things as a person who was not a student or a retiree?
After hearing this sentiment echoed by many others and thinking back to my college learnings as a student of Anthropology, I found my answer and began to cultivate Third Space.
There are plenty of us out here searching for each other-- we just need a place to meet!
My personal creative practice includes creative writing, journaling, scrapbooking, and recipe development. I am currently learning to sew, and working my way through the greatest films of all time according to the British Film Institute's Sight & Sound Poll.
When not at Third Space, you can find me eating my way across Southern Arizona, cooking for friends, or at home with my partner Cole and our dogs Uma and Tillie.
